PLEASE NOTE, ALL DISTANCES INCLUDING THE TOTAL ARE APPROXIMATE
HORSE-SHOE TRAIL OR HST, BLAZED YELLOW
WATER TANK TRAIL OR WTT, BLAZED BLUE
MARCIA'S MADNESS OR MM, BLAZED ORANGE
APPALACHIAN TRAIL OR AT, BLAZED WHITE
IF YOU'RE NOT FAMILIAR WITH THE COURSE CARRY AND READ THESE
INSRUCTIONS OR RUN WITH SOMEONE WHO KNOWS THE COURSE
THE FIRST 12.3 MILES ARE ON A COMBINATION OF YELLOW BLAZED
TRAIL, LOGGING ROAD, GRAVEL RAIL BED, BLUE BLAZED TRAIL, ORANGE BLAZED TRAIL
THEN BACK ONTO YELLOW BLAZED TRAIL
FOLLOW THE YELLOW BLAZED H.S.T. FOR THE FIRST 2 MILES
Leave parking lot on dirt road, in about half a mile there
will be a yellow blazed trail coming in from the right and joining the dirt
road. Make special note of this intersection, do not turn left here on your
return, continue straight to the finish. Follow the road and the yellow blazes
until you cross the pipeline the second time (the first time was on the small
wooden bridge on the first uphill) then turn RIGHT onto the pipeline continuing
to follow the yellow blazes. Follow the pipeline and the yellow blazes to
the top of Second Mt. and about a third of the way down the other side.
TURN RIGHT ONTO A SINGLE TRACK TRAIL WHICH CONNECTS IMMEDIATELY
WITH A LOGGING ROAD. TURN WILL BE MARKED WITH FLOUR OR BLUE RIBBON.
Continue on this road for approx. 2 miles to the wooden bridge over Stoney
Creek. DO NOT make any turns off this road until after you cross the bridge.
After crossing the bridge you will come to the rail bed.
TURN LEFT ONTO THE RAIL BED. TURN WILL BE MARKED WITH BLUE
FLOUR OR BLUE RIBBON.
Follow the rail bed for 1 mile to the blue blazed Water Tank
Trail. There is a small sign on the left identifying the trail.
TURN RIGHT ONTO THE BLUE BLAZED WATER TANK TRAIL. TURN WILL
BE MARKED WITH FLOUR OR BLUE
RIBBON
FOLLOW BLUE AND ORANGE BLAZES FOR THE NEXT 2 TO 3 MILES
Follow the blue blazes for about ½ mile, when the
trail starts to get steep look for the orange blazed Marcia's Madness Trail
going to the right.
TURN RIGHT ONTO THE ORANGE BLAZED MARCIA'S MADNESS TRAIL.
TURN WILL BE MARKED WITH BLUE FLOUR
OR BLUE RIBBON.
Follow it to the top of the mountain where it rejoins the
yellow blazed Horse-Shoe Trail.
TURN RIGHT ONTO THE YELLOW BLAZED HORSE-SHOE TRAIL. TURN
WILL BE MARKED WITH BLUE FLOUR OR BLUE RIBBON.
FOLLOW THE YELLOW BLAZES FOR THE NEXT 3 TO 4 MILES
When the road becomes rocky and steeply downhill look for
the yellow blazes to turn LEFT onto a single-track trail. TURN WILL BE MARKED
WITH BLUE FLOUR OR BLUE RIBBON.
Follow this trail across a small boulder field then to the top of Stony Mt.
where the HST terminates with the white blazed AT.
TURN LEFT AND FOLLOW THE WHITE BLAZED A.T. FOR THE NEXT 3.2
MILES. THE TURN WILL BE MARKED WITH BLUE FLOUR
OR BLUE RIBBON
Follow the white blazes for approx. three miles to Clark's
Valley. Go to the bridge at the parking lot and cross over to the aid station.
FOLLOW THE BLUE BLAZED W.T.T. FOR THE NEXT 3 MILES
Turn around and retrace your steps for 50 yards or so then
turn RIGHT onto the blue blazed WTT. TURN WILL BE MARKED WITH BLUE FLOUR OR BLUE RIBBON.
Follow the blue blazes for approx. one and a half miles. You will come to
a clearing where a logging road goes left and uphill, DO NOT TURN HERE continue
on for about two hundred yards then turn left onto a blue blazed single track
trail. TURN WILL BE MARKED WITH BLUE FLOUR OR BLUE RIBBON. Continue on to the top of Third
Mt. where the trail intersects the yellow blazed HST.
TURN RIGHT ONTO THE YELLOW BLAZED H.S.T. TURN WILL BE MARKED
WITH BLUE FLOUR OR BLUE RIBBON. STAY ON THE YELLOW BLAZED HORSE-SHOE TRAIL FOR APPROX. 7
MILES TO THE FINISH.
Follow the yellow blazed fire road to the bottom of the
mountain. Near the bottom of the hill the yellow blazes will exit left onto
the gas pipeline, follow them. Turn LEFT onto the gravel road, turn will not
be flagged, in about ¼ mile follow the yellow blazes to the RIGHT down
the hill to the site of the former cable bridge. Wade across the creek, find
the yellow blazes and follow them to the top of Second Mountain The last two
miles are the same trail as the first two.
REMEMBER WHERE THE YELLOW BLAZES STARTED
AT THE BEGINNING OF YOUR ADVENTURE? DO NOT TURN LEFT THERE. CONTINUE STRAIGHT
TO FINISH.
