WINTER FUN RUNS - Tues 6:30 PM
What: Tuesday Fun Runs. Fun runs are held during the dark and cold hours of the year at Long's Park. The park provides a good place to run repeat loops in a contained, lit and relatively safe area. Because it's dark, everyone is advised and encouraged to run with a partner. Run the loops for time, run them for fun, make a new running friend, and do the 'winter maintain' thing all at the same time. This is a good venue for people to get out of the cabin during those dark and lonely months. Odds are good that you'll feel better after running at the park then an evening on the couch. All interested runners are welcome. Still curious? Contact us.
When: 6:30 PM
Where: Roads: Long's Park (large corner bordered by the Harrisburg Pike and Route 30, 'cross from that mall) Trails: 6:30 PM behind the Villa Nova/Baker Field (search on 1310 Harrisburg Ave, Lancaster, PA)
Directions: The park is located at the intersection of the Harrisburg Pike and the Route 30 Bypass, northwest of Lancaster city. See the "Official Long's Park" "Official Park Directions Page" for more.
Parking For 2009/2010: Drive into the park lower entrance, after the Y, road is now one way and the lake is on your left, park on the right side. It's the first parking area on the right as you enter the park. Online Park Map. Note, most park roads are one way, except the first portion near the lower entrance.
The Run, The Route, The Specifics Step by step: Beginning in front of the amphitheatre, turn right & go around that island that's 50 yards to the right, continue past where you started & make the first left at the lake, continue on with the lake to your right and turn at left the next intersection, proceed up the hill and proceed past a big parking lot on the left, (near Pavilion 2-see map link below), turn left at the next intersection, continue up over the hill, turn right when running toward route 30 (only choice is that or left out onto the Harrisburg Pike), proceed, bear left when coming near the petting zoo, follow along to the next intersection & continue turning left, go around the lake (notice that the lake will always be on your right) and turn at the next left, go to the entrance circle, run around it and pass your parked car. See the "Official Long's Park" Online Park Map for a decent visual. All in all it's around a 1 5/8 mile loop. See the Route Map
In Summ The route is lit by overhead lights, contains 2 small hills, has a running/bike path in many sections is 1 5/8 miles long and is run in a clockwise direction. Got a GPS and a topo program? We'd love to map this thing out. We'd really like to know how much ascent & descent one encounters in 5 loops.
The After, The Part II. The group gets together at a local eating place to socialize, eat, meet, and welcome new friends, tell fish stories, talk running, debate politics, talk training, get stretching advice, find a race to run, rehydrate. If confused, just show up & run and ask around.
